Have Missing Teeth? A Dental Bridge May Be The Answer.

If you have missing teeth, there are several solutions to fix this problem. One of those is called a dental bridge. This is a fixed and non-removable appliance that is made to fit comfortably in your mouth and fill in the gaps you have missing teeth.

There are several types of bridges and we can discuss which one will be the best for your particular case. A traditional bridge has been the most popular in the past. It is normally made of a porcelain fused to metal and consist of two crowns that fit over two anchoring teeth or what is sometimes called, abutment teeth, and are attached to artificial teeth which fill in the gap created by one or more missing teeth.

Dental bridges are extremely strong and can last for many years, however they may need to be replaced or re-cemented due to normal wear.

Reasons You Might Need A Fixed Bridge

  • Fill the space of missing teeth
  • Maintain facial shape
  • Prevention of your remaining teeth from moving out of position
  • Restoration of chewing and the ability to speak
  • Restoration of your smile
  • Upgrade from a removable partial denture to a permanent appliance

What Does Getting Fixed Bridge Involve?

If you are thinking about getting a fixed bridge, you need to be prepared for two or more visits. While your teeth are numb, the two anchoring teeth are prepared by removing a portion of the enamel to allow for a crown. From there, an impression is made which is sent to our lab where the bridge will be fabricated. A temporary bridge will be made and worn for several weeks until your next appointment.

When you come in for your second appointment, your permanent bridge will be carefully checked, adjusted and then cemented into place and checked for proper fit. Occasionally the doctor may only temporarily cemented the bridge, allowing your teeth and the tissue time to adjust to the new bridge. Then the new bridge will be cemented permanently.

We will then give you instructions at the conclusion of your treatment on how to care for your bridge by properly brushing and flossing. We will also schedule another visit to make sure that the bridge is fitting and functioning well.

If you have missing teeth, then a fixed bridge may be a great solution for you. Call our office today set up an appointment and let us go over with you the options and fixing your missing teeth.
